Frances Law

Frances lives in rural Angus. Her work is shaped by the history, archaeology and landscape of place and the relationship between people, location and identity both in the past and present.
She trained as a painter but now works with a variety of media; paint, clay, printmaking, photography, found objects, installation, book making and writing, often working in partnership with community education and schools, healthcare professionals, museums and art galleries.
Walking, observing and gathering form the initial framework for her work where she explores the ecology of place. By overlaying the many things within the landscape; plants, animals, history and land use with the stories, conversations, emotions and memory of its inhabitants, she attempts to add meaning to a place by offering ways to become conscious of the multiple layers of understanding within the present. Frances makes artists books and loves to work with collage, printmaking and mixed media in the exploration of the Scottish landscape.
