Paul Fieldsend

Paul is a printmaker and photographer. His practice encompasses the Toyobo photopolymer etching, photo-plate lithography and copper and zinc plate etching processes, all of which offer great flexibility in creating work, whether representational or abstract.

The inspiration for Paul’s work is the limitless beauty to be found in the natural world –leaves, grasses, flowers and trees, both living and in states of natural decay – with source material found in the garden and surrounding countryside. Scabious flowers are a common theme in his work. Prints emerge from initial photographs, exploring and editing the images, and seeing how different printmaking processes, inks and papers can change the printed result.

Paul has exhibited widely and in 2024, he won his first award, receiving the John Purcell Paper Award at the inaugural Printmakers of Scotland Festival of Printmaking. He is an active member of Edinburgh Printmakers where, since March 2020, he has been a board trustee, and he is a member of Printmakers of Scotland and the Society of Scottish Artists. He lives in sunny Kinross-shire.
