Helen Chatterton Textiles
Helen is an Edinburgh designer/maker with two collections, Harris Tweed collection and City on Cloth map collection.
Helen makes luscious Harris Tweed scarves backed with silk velvets. The scarves measure 150 x 23cm, and the velvet backing making warm, comfortable and glamorous scarves. The Harris Tweed skinny scarves measuring 136 x 12 cm are backed with stunning Liberty cottons in beautiful combinations of colour and pattern.
Helen’s City on Cloth silk scarf collection was launched in 2012. Using her collection of old maps to produce the artwork the scarves are printed in Macclesfield. The collection has grown and includes over 20 scarves including Edinburgh, Paris, New York and Delhi. Helen has undertaken commissions from various museums and galleries.
One of Helen’s passions is zero waste. In both collections she makes lavender bags using left over fabrics. In 2020 she launched silk backed notebook using surplus map silk.
In January 2024 Helen launched a collection of British wool scarves backed with the silk used in her map scarves.
The inspiration for Helen’s work is colour, juxtaposing colours not usually put together. Her mission is to create beautiful well made items that will give the wearer/user many years of use and pleasure.
