Claire Hunter
Claire Hunter is an Irish designer and maker, living and working in Scotland.
She is inspired by the built environment, and the urban spaces that surround us. The jewellery she creates draws from creative enquiry into how we relate to our environment, as well as how this influences the way we as humans relate to one another. As such, her work is an exploration of identity - discovering who we are through how we relate to our physical surroundings & to other people.
The casán collection draws inspiration from the world under foot, and in particular by the surfaces that make up the paths we use as we traverse our urban environment.. The decay and repair of these surfaces help tell the story of how we get from A to B, and the value we place on the physical connections between places and people.
Her slabhraidhe collection is inspired by the Peace Lines in Belfast, and is made up of a number of different elements representing the walls themselves as seen from the street, the graffiti on their surfaces, as well as the paths the walls follow, and the razor wire so often found along them.
Claire works predominantly in silver, but also enjoys working with gold and other precious and non-precious metals.
