Carla Edwards
Carla Edwards has worked with resin and recycled silver to design and make colourful, tactile and easy to wear jewellery since 1999. Each piece is handmade in her studio in Leith, Edinburgh. Carla makes limited edition collections and works to commission. She has exhibited her jewellery in the UK and Internationally.
Inspiration comes from a love of pattern, colour and drawing. Collections are influenced by garden sketches, small details of plants, print and pattern design. Current work includes the Garden and Twig Collections, The Poppy Collection and the Speckle Collection.
Over the years Carla has developed her own techniques, layering the resin to create arrangements and repetitions of small resin shapes within larger forms. She uses multiple pigments, both opaque and translucent to colour resin, which is cast into silicone moulds. The original masters are made from various materials, mainly wood or resin. Delicate sgrafitto engraving is also applied to the surface of some pieces.
The recent Rainbow Brights Speckle Collection uses Carla's workshop scraps to create simple wearable forms bursting with colour.
