Ana Herranz Jewellery

Originally from Spain, Ana Herranz has been living in Scotland for over 20 years. Ana worked in Fair Trade retail for some years, before retraining as a jeweller and silversmith in 2006.
Ana works from her studio at home mainly in recycled silver but sometimes incorporates semi-precious stones to add a little colour. She is particularly interested in textures, patterns and surface decoration and tries to balance this love of pattern with simple shapes.
She strives to make jewellery which is understated, comfortable, and beautiful in its simplicity. She often gives her pieces an organic finish and tries to accentuate the textures applied with a contrast (polished/oxidized)
Ana takes inspiration from nature; leaves have been a constant in her jewellery making since the very beginning, their texture, their shapes. Some of her leaves have remained abstract and extremely simple, others have changed gradually with each new piece made. Like nature they evolve with time.
Patterns are her other source of inspiration, Moorish tiles patterns in particular. These patterns transport her to her childhood in Andalucía, and bring back memories of her family's old connections to Tangiers in Morocco.
Ana has recently acquired a Fairmined license which allows her to purchase fair trade certified gold and silver. For her this marks a very special moment both personally and professionally, as she has managed to bring together her passion for jewellery and her long-term commitment to Fair Trade.
